The Humphrey House -
Why is the restaurant closed? The restaurant doesn’t have a home to operate in; the building is closed.  This past July we experienced an unfortunate occurrence that would cut the water to the building off at the road; certainly something way outside of our control. We are waiting for expert advice, cost estimates, and lead times for “repairing” the fire/sprinkler system; a few other required building maintenance items are necessary in order to preserve the integrity of the building and property, as well.

What is the history behind the Humphrey House?
The Humphrey House has been a long-time favorite restaurant located in a historical building in Penfield. The building dates back to the mid 1800s, and part of its foundation was actually a section of town founder Daniel Penfield's home. It eventually became the home of a village physician for whom the restaurant was named- Dr. Maxwell Humphrey.

What is the vision for the future?
Ideally, once the building is restored and able to reopen for operation, we envision a new-style eatery and lounge; a more family-friendly, even community based establishment where folks young and old alike can come to eat, meet, gather for meetings, or even to just get acquainted with Penfield and the history of the town and people who made it the place it is revered for today. We would host fund-raisers, cater events, and still honor the spirit and tradition of the historic Humphrey House Restaurant with menu items like the Prime Rib specials and the fabulous Fish-fry; perhaps even resurrect some of the original classics such as Shrimp Humphrey and “comfort-food” specials.

Why are we sharing this update?
